Engine ran, quit and now won't start
2001 Honda Civic: I replaced the head gasket with a metal layered gasket but didn't machine the head. It had a very slight curve. The car was running before the replacement. After the replacement the car ran for about 45 seconds and sounded very good. Then there were a couple of knock sounds and the engine died.
There is spark (tested by grounding a plug), the rockers are moving. A little gas in the carburetor gave it a brief false start one time.
Any ideas will be welcomed. Thanks

Thanks. The video was especially helpful. I didn't think a timing belt could slip that far out of sync. I had some problem re-installing the timing belt tensioner so I am pretty sure that is where we went wrong. Does anyone have a picture of the tensioner assembly on a 2001 Civic? I have to get it right this time.
Thanks.
Thanks.
