If you have a bore scope you can sometimes pull the PM casting stamp off the top of the piston if the carbon build up is not bad.

This would allow you to verify it's the same piston rod setup as the D15B7/B2 of which I think it is. PM3 pistons if my memory serves me well.

I tried looking thru the plug hole with a small camera but couldnt get a clear view, so i ended up pulling the head today. now i know they are 4relief pistons. So now to begin finding the correct parts for the mini me. Any idea what the difference is with the pcv valve? Looks to be diff hose size and the z6 has a plastic nipple in it, where the b8 has no nipple.
i have a full z6 head with intake. I have whole car +wire harnesses

Almost all D series are 4 relief pistons, some are dished, the b7/b2 and I think the b8 is flat top and some are domed, but almost every single one of them has reliefs for both intake and exhaust to some degree.

That still doesn't tell you which piston it is, the casting stamp on the piston top will.

Did you see any alphanumeric code on them? Willing to bet it says PM3 as "TomCat39" stated.

I don't recall much functional difference between them. You can look on an automotive site such as Majestic to compare part numbers but keep in mind that you (we) have an old car and it's likely that during it's lifetime of how ever many owners that it wasn't always treated to OEM replacement parts when/where required. I've seen the generic PCV valve from Autozone/Kragen and it looks different but is still functionally the same. I've used fuel line also to replace those related hoses and have even seen the valve omitted in some junkyard cars.
