d16a1 pistons + d16a6 motor + boost = ?
Would the compression of a d16a6 block with a1 pistons be too high to safely boost for a daily driven car on pump gas? I would run around 5-6 psi daily and probably more at the track wiht the Greddy kit + type 24 intercooler. Thanks....
You're looking at about 10.8:1 with the 88-89 A1 pistons (it will be a touch less with 86-87 A1 pistons), the stock A6 headgasket, and A6 head.
People have boosted 11:1 engines before, but your margin for error will be very small.

Ref: SCC turbo'ed the 11.5:1 Toyota Matrix but, 7 psi and A LOT of tuning.
So I would be looking at 10.8:1 compression with the a1 pistons in the a6 motor? In order to avoid detonation fuel tuning is involved right? As long as I have the correct fuel management goodies and use 91 octane I should be fine for street? The reason I ask this question is because I want to build up my old a6 and drive it N/A for a while until I can afford the Greddy kit

I was looking at a ZC tranny and swapping my Si final drive into the ZC. That a good move? Or should I get a different FD....suggestions?

srr 4.9 fd, well, if u choose the all motor route.. anyway... i didnt know that the a1 pistons give an a6 10.8 c/r? cool, so what kind of comp would they give a y7 with a 34.6 cc chamber? maybe around mid 11? i hope..

... and SCC blew the Matrix's motor! Oops!

That's a little worrisome! If I am planning on going FI in the future, should I just replace the pistons with new a6 pistons? My motor has 160,000mi on it, but it still runs strong. What all should I replace if I want to make it able to take 6-8 psi daily? Or would it just be more cost-effective to spring for a low mileage d16z6....Spade where you at

What about valvetrain-wise? I just dont want my 160k motor to take a crap on me. Im lookin for 6-8psi daily (intercooled) or more from the old beast.
rydaddy what happened to your b16 plans? anyways, i've been boosting on my a6 at 5 psi for a couple weeks now, it's going up soon w/ the addition of a new intercooler and fuel system...welcome to the darkside
by the way, this is sporkcrx from your other board

Oh whats up man? Damn money issues are screwing me. I was originally goiing to swap in a b16, but I have been doing a bunch of research and decided to boost the a6. Its more cost-effective, more power to the ground, and its BOOST! Damn, I want to take a ride in your rex and see how it feels with boost! What did you replace (if anything) before you dropped in the turbo? I think I will PM you with a bunch of questions.
