HoW much to get metal work for both rear quarters
1994 hatch, rust on wheel wells of both rear quarters.
what re my options?
If it doesnt have to be pretty ,about how much would it cost to cut and weld in new metal?

I took mine to the local Maaco. I know, sue me. It was around $950 to have both quarters cut out and redone. And that was with me supplying the material. FixMyRust.com is where I got my quarters. From a monetary standpoint, it's not worth the money and time. But for me, not having rusty quarters is worth it.

So tony, you're saying that this is harder to do yourself. Makes sense. The idea of spending 1000 seems not an option. The side with the gas fill is worse. Not super bad yet. But my fridad never said when rust strikes, you need to cut about 6 inches beyond where you see me t as it is in there waiting to pop out.

Rust does not pop out. It is a layer of oxidation that starts from the outside of the metal and works its way in. That is why paint protects it, and why rust starts where paint has been chipped away.

Some people don't understand that, they see rust and think 'oh its just surface rust'.

There are such things as surface rust. Some types of steel will patina and a layer of rust builds on the surface of the metal and due to the characteristics of the alloy will not penetrate further than the patina layer.
