misfire question code 9 / what’s the correct ecu for my 96 lx 2.2 auto
Does anyone know what the right ecu is for the 96 lx 4dr auto non vtec? Also anyone know about bad ecu causing misfire and throwing a code 9 and misfire codes? I’ve got a new dizzy coming tomorow but I’ve already changed it before and had misfire still but it’s just getting worse now and running rough at normal speed but then I full on hit the gas and it clears up for a second. The oil smells very gassy too. It seems to run worse when it’s colder outside. Sometimes even cuts off and I have to rev it to stay on. I’ve got new oem ngk plugs and wires. And the dizzy is less than a year old and didn’t resolve the problem it’s just gotten way more frequent in the last month but also much colder outside. Any help appreciated.

Less likely a PCM problem, more likely a wiring connection, check the distributor connections for clean tight fit, make sure there is no corrosion on the pins, recheck any work that was done prior to distributor replacement. Check for damaged pins, loose pins, loose connections in the connectors. Best way to verify if it is the CYP is to check the CYP directly 800-1500Ω. Trace the wires back to the PCM, check that the resistance is the same at the PCM, if wiggling the wires shows an open or change in resistance then there is a problem in the wiring, locate the issue and repair.
One other thing to verify is that the spark plug wire well boots are properly seated and staying on the plug wires, some cheaper wire sets do not properly stay on the plugs and pop off. If they do then the boots are incorrect for the application. This will also cause a CYP code.
When was the last time the valve clearance was checked, should be done every 30K miles. If the valves are too tight, usually exhaust, the valve will hang open, no compression = misfire.
When was the last time the EGR manifold was cleaned out, if over 80Kmiles the ports are probably clogged and will cause a misfire as well.
