Default 1988 Honda Civic sedan

I recently had my civic dx swapped to MPFI, I am having some issues and the mechanic who did the swap is no where to be found. I noticed that he did not use a restrictor box And he told me to keep the PM5 ECU. The car is currently smoking greyish white and smells like raw fuel. It starts fine but after a few minutes it stalls unless I keep my foot on the gas peddle at that point the gas peddle kind cuts off and it start to back fire or stalls as if it’s flooding . If I try to move the car it runs very limp and stalls. I tried using a PM6 and the car got even worst so I put back the PM5 and suggestion on what you guys think it might be please help !!!

  1. Are you throwing any CEL's? If so, what are they?
  2. You need a PM6 ECU - the PM5 will not work for MPFI.
  3. Did the mechanic swap the DPFI distributor for an MPFI distributor?
  4. Check the wiring at the TPS - were the wires switched like they should have been?
  5. Unplug one of the injectors from the wiring harness and use a multi-meter to check the resistance on the injector. If the injector's resistance measures about 12 ohm, the mechanic installed saturated injectors - no resistor box needed. If the injector's resistance measures about 2-3 ohm, you are using peak & hold injectors and will need a resistor box.

you can eliminate the resistor box if you literally cut the plug and twist all the wires together and solder/head shrink it and change to obd1 injectors and plugs , also Monotech on ebay sells a fantastic tucked dpfi to mpfi conversion harness for like $200
