My 2000 Honda accord won't go over 3000 rpm. It studders and jerks.
When I try to give it gas it jerks really hard and cuts out. I have no idea what could cause it because it just started this morning when I crunk up to go to work.
I’m having the same issue at the moment but I’m getting ready to do what I should have done, grabbed a book and read up on it!!!! Lol gonna take the car apart if it still runs I’ll let you know what I did.
1) Fuel pump/fuel pump relay test:
Inside the Accord, click the ignition to "on" (first click) and listen past the noise of the chimes for the sound of the fuel pump priming: a hum that lasts two seconds.
- No hum? Repeat test; listen carefully.
- Still no hum? Check fuel pump relay. Plenty of good YouTube videos detail the process of evaluating the fuel pump relay.
2) Quick (with mild risk) fuel delivery test:
An assistant will turn the ignition to ignition to "on" (first click) when you ask while you watch fuel exit a fuel line that you have disconnected at the fuel pressure damper. Expect fuel to exit with some force into a container that you will hold, so be prepared. One attempt should be all that is required to confirm your fuel delivery system works to that point. Plenty of good YouTube videos detail the procedure for confirming fuel delivery to the engine.
2) Fuel pressure test:
This test requires use of a fuel pressure test kit. The procedure is different between a 4 and 6 cyl engines. Plenty of good YouTube videos detail the procedure for performing a fuel pressure test on both both engine types.
Nominal pressure for (2000 Accord):
- 2.3L 4cyl (VIN: CG3, CG5, CG8): 38-46psi
- 3.0L 6cyl (VIN: CG1, CG2): 38-40psi
