Advice on engine swap
Hey I Have a 1988 CRX I’m looking to swap a D16Z6 v-tech into to. The CRX I have is an automatic and I’m wanting to swap it to a manual
the D16Z6 I got is currently in a 95 civic and is a manual as well
for the conversion part to a manual, what other parts for the CRX will I need?

well should have really picked a better chassis to swap or already been knowledgeable about what you have to do to swap that chassis... and since its a auto crx im assuming its a DX (Si and HF were manual only) soooooooo you will have to do a dpfi to mpfi conversion then a obd0 to obd1 conversion , you will need the motor and trans and mounts and axles and shift linkage and I even believe alot of the engine/dash harness is different but can be reused and pedal assembly, id reccomend using a cable clutch transmission for ease or can do a cable to hydro, same note I wouldnt do all this effort in a swap to have a like whopping 120hp
Just in case some clarification would be helpful...
DPFI to MPFI swap: This must be done. Get googling, several good guides exist.
OBD0 to OBD1: You only need to do this if you want VTEC to work properly, BUT since you will have to source an ECU (the auto DPFI ECU will not work with multi-point), you should probably use the OBD1 that is in the '95.
Harnesses: Buy adapter harnesses. There's a lot of options and info out there. Don't hack up your engine harness more than you have to for the MPFI conversion. Keep it simple.
Cable to Hydro: As dilbeckskate indicated, this will be the most expensive and least useful portion of the swap. You need a full set of swap mounts, you should not cheap out on these. Also need axles and shift linkages from the donor car (they are not the same lengths as the EF); hopefully you have all this? Most importantly you'll have to get the conversion for the clutch, since the EGs used a hydraulic clutch instead of the cable on the EF. A manual transmission from a DX or SI EF would be MUCH simpler (and cheaper) than all this time and cost.

you have the 95 civic already? full parts car or something? I assume the CRX is DPFI, correct?
have some form of the service manual and/or wiring diagram handy for both vehicles. no matter what you do about wiring, if you run into problems this will be the best help it solving them.
speaking of wiring- with both cars at hand a full OBD-1 conversion would make the most sense to me. it will be involved, but so is the whole project. If you would rather have something plug and play send a detailed description of what you're working with to orders@rywire.com and see what they say. I've done this swap before (auto DPFI to manual Z6) on an absolute, bare-minimum budget which required me to split open both engine harnesses and recombine them as one. So I know it's possible to do. I don't recommend you try unless you have an engineering background or similar.
this looks like a decent solution for using the hydro trans. all one kit, cable adapter and mounts for $350. not too bad in my opinion. of course you'll need to swap your pedal assembly for one with a clutch pedal. then you'll need to get a cable and then cut the whole in the firewall. I've never tried, but if you do in fact have both complete cars, test fit and see what it would take to get the '95 clutch pedal assembly into the CRX.
plan to use the '95 shift linkage and trim the floor/tunnel as needed. it may need some reinforcing, i don't remember.
basically, pull everything out of both cars including the dash. see what you're working with and then make a plan to get anything associated with the engine/trans moved from the '95 to the CRX. you may end up needing very little extra.

these are the 3 things you need to search for on the Googles.
They have been done many times over so you will find a lot of information.
DPFI to MPFI
OBD0 to OBD1
auto to manual
and if you chose to, you can do the cable to hydro, but using an 88~91 cable trans is usually the method used.
the kits to do this conversion cost quite a bit with consideration that a D series cable transmission can be used.

Monotech on ebay literally sells a dpfi to mpfi conversion harness... even made mine to do the resistor box delete and use obd1 injectors and ordered mine to use the obd1 distributor ... dudes good and affordable
