I'm having problem installing the Spoon Shift Linkage Bushings Kit on to my 97 JDM spec DC2R. My problem is with the two holes on the shift extension mount, which are the ones circled in red in the attached photo, these are way too big for the OEM bolts that was on the car. I measured the bolts and they are 7mm in diameter, but the holes are 18mm in diameter.
The OEM ones does have a long metal washer in the holes of the bushing, but these were still too small to fit into the holes and would fall out instantly. Does anyone know how these are fitted or do I have to do a DIY work around?
That's interesting. I just installed a mugen shift bushings kit (because it was half the price of spoon and it's mugen hehe). Everything went together just fine, I installed on my 2001 usdm Integra gsr. Definitely use those long metal inserts. I greased everything up and the metal things went into with a little effort. Sounds like Spoon is different tho.
One thought, maybe you need "98 spec long metal inserts?
Do you still have the factory plate that went across the bottom of the rear bushing? You'll need to use that and the metal bushings (sleeves) that go through the factory bushing. #19 in the parts diag.

The mechanic said that the Mugen ones a basically straight swap to the OEM and they fit exactly the same as the OEM as his previous DC2 he swapped out the OEMs for a set of Mugens too.
I might have to look into if there is a difference between 98 spec and 96 spec on the size of the mounting bolt and size of the hole of metal collar.
Yes, I have the metal sleeves (#10) x 2 and the factory metal plate/bracket (#19), but the metal sleeves are still too small, as size difference are too much between the outer diameter of the metal sleeve and the inner diameter of mounting hole of the Spoon bushing, the sleeves would fall right thru the holes of the Spoon bushing. The mechanic said even if you mount it because there is still too much space between the sleeve and the holes on the Spoon bushings, it would defeat the purpose.
As most of the other shifter bushings kits I have searched, most of the shift extension mount bushing shown in photos have a much smaller hole then the one on the Spoon one, which is why i'm so confused.
I'm actually going to order a new set of metal sleeves (#10) x 2 and a new factory metal plate/bracket (#19) from another shop to see if would fit and maybe there is a difference between 98 and 96 spec?
Maybe it's possible that your spoon bushing was made incorrectly?
I'm asking RHDJapan which is the website I used to purchase the set of bushings. Also, seems to be when I search online that all of the photos shown, even on the official Spoon Japan and Europe website, show the same thing as what I got.
I'm just wondering if there is something wrong with my original bushings and the metal sleeve. Does anyone have a photo of the metal sleeves and show how big are the outer diameter of metal sleeves they have?
I'm running spoon bushings right now. Use your factory parts, they will work just fine
It seems to me that shift extension mount bushing that I have in my car might not be OEM / Type-R as the metal sleeve on them are way too small to fit into the holes on the Spoon ones, they basically just fall right off.
I'm ordering some new OEM metal sleeves and the bracket from Honda, will see when they come if they would fit into the Spoon bushing.
They won't fit snug. My factory sleeves didn't either. That's why you have to use the plate underneath.
ic, so the sleeve will be loose sitting inside the holes in the Spoon bushing? Would that not defeat the point of having it instead of the OEM one since it is loose and won't hold tightly?
No, the point is that it eliminates the flex that the soft OEM bushing had. Those sleeves won't affect a thing once everything is bolted down properly.

Icic, I guess I'll try to install it with the new set of OEM metal sleeve and bracket when they arrive. I order them thinking that maybe mine were not original meant for 96spec DC2R. Thank you very much for the reply, greatly appreciate the help and clarification.

I agree, me and my friend was thinking the same thing, why didn't they make the holes to fit the OEM metal sleeves. But I guess since these are for both EK and DC, they just save the hassle and make one size fit all thing?
Does anyone know the reason behind their design? I tried reaching out to Spoon EU and Spoon JP, but have yet to heard back.
So just a quick update, I had ordered a set of OEM metal sleeves and bracket. I took the measurements of everything and would want to ask opinion if I should install it on my car, since the metal sleeves is much smaller then the hole on the Spoon bushing and also the length of the bushing is too long to fit in the bracket. I had marked all the measurements on the photo.
Any feedback and reply would be much appreciated. OEM metal sleeve bought from dealer The sleeve sits super loose in the bushing The metal sleeves fall out as soon as I move the bushing Outer diameter of OEM metal sleeve is around 12-13mm Diameter of hole on the Spoon bushing is around 14mm The Spoon bushing is too long for the OEM metal bracket The length of the space in the bracket where the bushing sits is around 89mm Length of the Spoon bushing around 98mm
