Idle goes up and down
Hi I'm having difficulties with 97 honda accord dx. On cold starts my car revs up to a bit over 2000 rmp and warms up and idles up and down. I cleaned the throttle body already and IACV aswell it was pretty clogged. Check engine light gives me two codes p0108 and p0122. When I disconnect the MAP sensor car goes to normal idle and doesn't have high idle. Any info will be helpful. I'm just trying to find the actually issue to replace the part as money is tight. Thank you.
Lot of possibilities:
IACV is clean, but bad
FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve) clogged, out of adjustment, or bad. It should only let lots of air in to help with starting and warming up to normal idle. The little white ring inside should be snug, but not heavily tightened.
Vacuum leak somewhere (Kind of a search mission around the intake with some starter fluid and the engine idling)
Air pockets in cooling system (If had a recent flush & fill, maybe air was left in the system. Idle will rise and fall)
Your codes are MAP sensor and TPS, but you might have set those codes by unplugging those sensors. Best to clear all the codes and see if any keep coming back.
Some years ago, I was able to isolate my IACV as the culprit in the rising/falling idle speed by checking the valve with a multimeter. It was shot.
