Replacing conventional dash lighting with LEDs
On my son's advice, I replaced most of the lights in my 95 Accord's dash with LEDs. Everything was fine for a few years. A couple of years ago the light for the heater controls started cutting in and out. Just recently the light for the face of the speedometer started to flicker rapidly. I thought there might be some loose connections or bad bulbs and having worked on the lighting when I installed the LEDs I didn't expect a problem. I ended up making things worse, with more lights not working. I gave up and took it to the Honda dealer who, after explaining twice which lights weren't working, was able to get more of the lights to work. They said it was fixed and I couldn't tell in the daylight if they were all fixed. I just went out in the dark and found that the lights for the buttons on the heater are still not working and the lights for the heater control ***** only go on when I smack the dash. The dealer had replaced all my LEDs with conventional bulbs, saying that LEDs should not be used in the dash. I told him they had worked fine for several years, but he was adamant that they should NOT be used. I need to take the car back to get the remaining problems fixed, but I have serious doubts about LEDs not working in the dash of my 95 Accord. Does anyone out there know of there being a problem with using them in my car?
I've had vleds in my dash for 2 years now on my 95 ex wagon. No issues or worries. The only ones I didn't replace were in the buttons such as defroster, hazard and sunroof. If anything the only issue I've ever had and that was before the led's and was a dead dimmer
