Icon6 Yo! new lawnmower on the block.

Hey everyone, I'm Hudson.

Backstory: Been looking for a decent civic hatchback automatic( Don't know how to drive a manual yet ) for a couple months now and came across one on craigslist that had 200k miles, a decent body( red color ) and clean title for 1500. I was going to get it and then 5 days later I checked craigslist again and saw one had been posted 3hr prior with 129k miles(Miles may be wrong, haven't pulled the car fax. Honestly though didn't care to much as these car are all about engine swaps anyways and there relatively cheap to fix and maintain.), much better body( dark grey which was the color I wanted too ) BUT a salvage title for 1150. The poster selling it was a tow yard who had received it from a DUI driver who didn't bother to get the car back so they put it up for sale. The tow yard person I talked to was nice enough to hold the car for me from quite a few other people who called because I was the only one driving from 2hrs away to check it out. Got there, didn't look as nice as the pictures showed(small dent on the back near the taillight, cracked front windshield, not so nice rear window, mismatched interior panels and a ghetto rigged Ignition) but decent none the less. Had no battery so they swapped one from another civic on the lot so I could drive it around the block alone and make my judgment call. It was pretty nostalgic. It kicked, growled( has one of those big loud ratchet exhaust -_- ), rattled/squeaked and was slow as hell but dam did I enjoy that harsh ride. The transmission kicks a bit when it shifts but I actually enjoyed it as it felt like a pure car, none of the fancy electronics or mechanism that cars have these days. Interestingly enough it had the sound of a manual car when it shifted, Don't know it that's because it has a 4 speed transmission or if something is wrong but I liked it. It had character and spunk. So I come back around and parked. Started looking at it more closely now that I knew it ran, checked the undercarriage, the whole body, the doors, buttons, truck and all that stuff. Then opened the hood and checked that out. It was dirty as I expected it to be. It burns oil it seems as just a little whisper of smoke came from when the dip stick area is and had that particular smell. But all other liquids were fine and it had a new filter. So I "decided" I'll take the car although my mind had already been set before I came. So I have my friend drive my accord back home as I tails him should the car stall or whatever. Wow, what a trip that was. Driving up and down these highways and hills in my new lawnmower, everyone is honking and passing me up literally. Hahah! Had to keep calling my buddy to slow the F down as I was only able to got 65 and dropped to 55-60 when we hit those hills....poor thing. I didn't want to push it too much as I've never drove such an old car in my entire life. Don't know what these cars can handle and also because the guy told me they don't know anything about the cars they tow aside from driving them up and down the block to make sure they at least run. Moving on..

Longest 2hrs of my life, but mostly because I wanted to get home so I could play around with it in my driveway. Learn about it and what not. Well I get off the freeway and its always packed as I live off the main street. At this point were close enough to my house so my friend is already out of site and probably in my driveway by now.. So I'm idling somewhat near the stop light right off the freeway stuck in this gridlock and the car starts to shake and make some sounds that you KNOW are bad and I'm like FFFF here we go, this is exactly what I was worried about. So I start panicking haha! I put my hazards on and look around for a potential opening I can squeeze into so I could get through the gridlock and get out the way before it stalls and dies on me and all the cars around me start to loose there sh*t because I'm literally at the exit of the freeway and they'll be stuck behind me. Well couldn't do that because its bumper to bumper. I was trapped so I just put the thing in park and turned it off till the light was green and the cars in front of me clear the area enough for me to floor it all the way across the light and through the intersection so I can turn onto my street without stopping. So I get to my street but the car is thumping and kicks in a very different manner than shifting. I'm literally one light away from my house and I was about to blow through the red light since its only a two way anyways but there was a cop to the left and I wasn't about that life that day. Luckily enough the light turned green just as I was approaching it and I was able to turn into my driveway. Excellent timing as I backed into my spot it died on me. YESSS! Not that it died but that my new lawnmower lasted long enough through the long drive to then get it into my driveway and in my parking spot perfectly. L0L! Lifted the hood and it was smoking a bit and the exhaust was throwing some smoke as well. So I let it chill, obviously not off to a good start but I was expecting this and then some. Next day had my coworker who was a mechanic come check it out and give me some pointers on what it could be and what to start working on to get it in shape and ready for a full service tuneup at an actual shop. Started the car for him and idled it so he could see if the overheating was dude to the radiator fan no turning on or something else. Turns out it was indeed the fan as once the temp gauge went to half it should have kicked on but it didn't. So now we have a starting point. The next day I went to oreillys and bought the part. Put it in, topped the radiator fluid up to the recommended level. Then took it around the block and back into my driveway to warm it up then let it sit there idling for about 25-30 mins maybe even less but once the temp gauge hit a little under halfway the fan kicked on. So boom one of the things out of the way. Now that it is can at least run I can take it to the family mechanics shop for a full check one my next day off. But In the meantime, I gutted the car and started cleaning the inside with purple power. Found money, broken glass, a bong pipe piece, hella marijuana ailments, liters and other random things then a ton of sunflower seeds under the carpet?? Don't know how that go there but ok..Haha! Wanted to clean it from the inside out because It had a smell to it and also just in case there happen to be something "hidden" I don't need or want to catch a case.. So car is clean now and ready for the next steps.

My journey can now begin. I have my starting point and the interior is empty so my mechanics can check all the wiring and what not. That is my story l0l. I'm looking forward to being a part of the club!
