Storing an engine head
Hey guys, I currently trying to do an lsvtec swap and I was able to get a b16 head. I currently waiting for the funds to build the ls bottom end and I wanted to know what the best way to store it. I saw one post online that you should keep it in a plastic bag filled with WD40 or PB Blaster. I was asking around and they said I shouldn't do that because the bag hold moisture and will do damage. So, I wanted to know what you guys do. I'm keeping it in my shed and because of where I live, humidity is really high here, so I want to know the best way to store it.

Cosmoline is the traditional material used by the Army for long term storage of guns and machinery. It lasts for decades but is difficult to remove. WD-40 is OK for short term but it will need to be re-applied every few months.
I leave clean engine oil on my spare heads, wrap them in plastic cling wrap that comes on large rolls (the stuff usually used for packing things when you’re moving) and store them in bins. I’ve been storing one of them like that for almost 10 years. Dallas, TX so we get at least one hard freeze a year. Lots of hot weather. Lots of humidity. Recently unpacked it and it looks new. I wouldn’t overthink it. Wd40 will work, too but it’s thinner, and I hate the smell.

I have good luck using generic ATF as a corrosion preventative. WD-40 is a little thin. ATF sticks pretty well and does the job. cheap and easy to find too.
