Default Metallic thumping noise that happens sporadically

Hello Honda-Tech Forum;

Can anyone explain what may be making the noise heard in the attached videos?

I have got a 2000 Honda Accord LX. It has been making a metallic thumping noise (see attached videos). It will go for several weeks and not make the noise. Then it will make the noise for a day or two then stop making the noise again for several more weeks.

Thank you in advance.

sounds like impact on sheet metal. Maybe the cat heat shield, battery tray, belt tensioner, rear motor mount arm, exhaust manifold heat shield, fan shroud, cam cover. put the car on ramps and craw underneath to have a look around. put your hand on the engine and trans case to see if you can feel it. I sometimes use a cardboard tube to get more hearing directivity. is the CEL on? does it have ABS?

schreps;

Thanks for responding to my question.

That check engine light comes and goes. I put Chevron Techron system cleaner into the gas tank and it will go out for a while. It hasn't been on for maybe six months. A few years ago my mechanic told me the fuel system was dirty and to use the Techron.

I don't know if it has anti lock brakes.

techron is good uses PEA as the cleaner. what code was being set, did your mechanic say? P0420, P1163, P1168 maybe? can you localize where the noise is coming from (left/right, front/back)? I hold a paper towel cardboard tube to my ear to help.

it took a screw driver handle and tapped on things on my 99 accord, the closest I got to your noise is the front engine mount plate and the low pressure AC line. The exhaust heat shield, cam cover and metal fan shroud doesn't sound the same.
