Hi, I made an account just to post this thread. I have a 94 accord ex with a leaky vtec solenoid. I'm trying to replace it and as I'm shopping online I notice that the 98-02 variant of this part is much more abundant and cheaper than the 94-97 variant. Perhaps this is a silly question, but would 98-02 one work for my 94? What are the actual differences between the two?
Here's what I do when I have a compatibility question like yours, I go to the Honda parts website of Majestic Honda and lookup the official Honda part number.
1994 vtec assembly, part 9, is 15810-P0A-005, the solenoid, part 11, is 36171-P0A-015
1998 vtec assembly, part 11, is 15810-PAA-A02, there is no part number for just the solenoid...
Two different vtec assembly part numbers so chances are they are not the same, but in this case I would go to the pickapart and pull one to compare. If the gasket is leaking and not the body of the solenoid, then just buy gasket 12, 36172-P0A-005
Probably your leak is due to the small gaskets between the solenoid and the head. There are two. One next to the solenoid and another next to the head. Make sure you replace both.
