I have a 96 Accord EX with the VTEC engine and I can't get it to start. Recently it overheated and I had to replace the radiator and I replaced the thermostat at the same time. Right after I replaced both, it ran fine for a day then I started having sputtering issues. For example, if I went up any incline or while coming from a complete stop it would almost stall out unless I floored it and even then, it may take a bit to go. I replaced the rotor in the distributor and the coil and it still won't start. I ordered a fuel injection relay and it will arrive tomorrow. I've read where it's possible it could be a coolant temperature sensor and, to me, that would make sense because maybe when it overheated it just fried the sensor. But would that keep it from starting? I've read other similar posts and it seems that there isn't a consensus on this. And if that doesn't fix the problem, what should I try next...ECU? I replaced the plugs and wires in July and the distributor cap looked ok to me, but I'm going to replace it anyway.
Also, I did notice the fuel milage went to hell before I replaced the radiator.
When changing the radiator it’s self you got to fill it up and leave the cap off with the car start and let it cycle through your radiator and squeeze the hoses like your burping it and letting all the air out of your radiator. Your motor getting hit could of put your computer into limp mode as well you can try resetting your ecu and hopefully it will help. Also check if you have a CEL light on and post your codes for more info! Hope it helps!!!
For everyone that replaces radiators, thermostats, hoses, flushes coolant systems - buy a radiator funnel kit. Its worth it and makes getting the air out of the system a snap. put the car on ramps, fill, let it run, burp the air purge valve, repeat several times, your done. Here's what I have, the blue adapter works with honda radiators:
