GAS Tank leaking after overfill
2002 Honda Accord EX 4 CYL, gas tank from up somwhere start leaking & dripping fwd side of tank, can tank get that much pressure due to overfill that a line above tank or tank itself can crack or leak?? it is hard to look ,how to find leak top side tank area?. Thanks
I'm going to call this a coincidence, these tanks are well known for rusting through on the top. The tank on my 2001 Accord rusted through last year; at first I would catch just a whiff of gasoline smell after a fillup and wondered if there was an EVAP leak; then one day there was a puddle under the front/left side of the tank. When my shop pulled the tank (which requires dropping the entire rear suspension), I could see stamped in depression which had a hole maybe half the size of a dime all the way through the metal.
"....requires dropping the entire rear suspension" that is not a nice thing to have to do.
Honda designers! ARGH!
Wondering when I'll have that problem now.....

Thanks, now it is half tank & it is not dripping but wet on the upper side rust spots , when open filling gas cap ,there is no pressure & still smell gas near car --do you think it will pass emission
test?
test?
It will probably pass if you bring the car in when there is less than a half tank of gas, errr, until it starts throwing codes (which will eventually happen).
