I'm not checking to see if a swap can be done I'm actually trying to understand what head they pulled off a 92 Honda Accord LX in a yard. While I was working doing the research for my stepson's 1990 Honda Accord DX we found a 1992 Honda Accord LX so my girlfriend and him pulled the head. Not thinking about how often Honda's get modified I didn't second guess the head would not be a F22A or PT3 cast. After I came home and viewed the head I noticed that the intake ports were completely different and looked like an F22B. I'm very sorry but I have a bad memory and I forgot what the cast mark said but it was not PT3 and I didn't look to see if it in fact was a F22B so I'm assuming right now. Why would someone do it in the first place I don't know? I've read the specs and I'd much rather have another F22A head put back on it. We don't have the time and money at the moment to recondition the head and install new valves and I don;t like to half *** anything. I have some pictures but again I didn't take them so the cast numbers are not visible. I'm hoping someone might be able to know by looking at these pictures? I doubt it but I thought I would try. I didn't know if it would be worth the time to send him back to get the intake manifold and exhaust so we can get his car back up and running and stop getting rides into work from us.
s hoping it might be an F23A1
Yes you are correct. After i looked it over and weighed the options and decided that I didn't want him spending time and money trying to swap the head. I knew it was an F22B and after returning the head to Picknpull in VA Bch they changed the date on the vehicle from a 92 to a 94. That's a big mistake for a parts yard to make. Thanks for the response you have a good eye!
Aside from the casting numbers, the dead give away is actually the intake and exhaust ports geometry on these heads. It is very hard to tell from looking at the rocker assembly as they share the same parts from 90-97 for the SOHC non VTEC head castings PT3 and P0B.
The exhaust ports on the 90-93 F22A are equal spread 0-0-0-0 inline with the intake ports, while the 94-97 F22B2 are not. The center pair are closer together - 0-00-0. As well the intake ports on the F22A (PT3 casting) are a lateral oval, while the F22B2 (P0B casting) are more of a vertical oval, tear drop shape. You cannot mix and match the manifolds between these heads.
Thank you very much Ghost! As soon as I walked into the garage and saw the intake ports I knew right away it wasn't the right head. Its frustrating that a pull yard would date the vehicle incorrectly. I know my stepson and his mother put a lot of time and effort in removing the head while I was at work. I was hoping to get him back on the road immediately however it doesn't look to be working out that way. Looks like I'll spend a little time with him changing out the valves on the original head. Any good reconditioning kit's available would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather get everything done after we get the head machined.
