Strange noise at rev limiter
Ok, So I've got a 98 Ex with a d16y7, obviously it's not the original motor. I've had the car for about 6 months now, and all of a sudden I've noticed a very loud and strange noise Everytime I hit the rev limiter. The noise is like a quick and loud hiss, almost like a blow off valve sounds on a turbo, and it happens when the rev limiter is hot hs the rpms of the engine decrease. The noise is coming from the passenger side of the motor bay ssomewhere. I've not noticed any loss of power or anything else that corresponds with the new noise, just the noise it's self. I'm about 90% sure the car wasn't doing that when I bought it, I believe it only started a month or so ago. Any help would be appreciated!!!
For any new roaring etc noise, check for exhaust leaks by blocking the tailpipe while idling.
The rev limiter is not designed to be part of normal driving and I would expect some abnormal things to happen. You will go faster if you shift before reaching the rev limit.

Honestly, when trying to maximize speed, I wind every gear as far as possible before I pop the rev limiter, and when I do it is because I shifted a wee bit late. I do this to try and keep in a high rpm band because that seems to be where the most power in my y7 is, but as I am still new to the Honda game I approach everything with an open ear, so are you saying I can reach speeds faster by shifting at a certain rpm rather than winding every gear for all it has?

Are you sure it's a "hiss" and not a "whiz" sound? My car used to do that a very long time ago and it eventually evolved into a crunchy sound that turned out to be a bad input shaft bearing,
Yeah, I mean I've never owned a turbo vehicle but it sounds just like a blow off valve. It's definitely air being released somewhere when the rev limit is hit as the rpms drop down to wherever they start picking back up again. Not yet had the time to investigate it outside the car with the hood open. I have however quick scoured for vaccumm leaks and dosent seem to be any.
This is by far the best thing I've read all day. I was sitting in a waiting room full of people and I bursted out with laughter! Haha. But in hopes to make this true soon.. had a minime in mind for a while.
