Default Sputtering Accord

I drive a 1997 Honda Accord EX-R with 2.3 Vtech engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. It's acting weird...
I've had the check engine light on for months expecting it was related to an o2 sensor issue because everything was working as it should. Recently the engine started sputtering on the highway and then the engine light started flashing. Then in a minute or less the engine stopped sputtering and the check engine light stopped flashing. It alternates from smooth running and light on to sputtering and light flashing. Craziest thing i've seen. The car bogs down and labors while sputtering and then smoothly returns to regular driving. It's my daily commuter car that takes me 20 miles each day, one way. Any idea what the problem is with my otherwise great little car?

Oxygen sensor symptoms for sure. But could be some bad gas, or other stuff. How many miles? Is the O2 sensor original?

That is Cylinder 1 and 2 misfiring. The first thing that you have to do is to fix the O2 issue. It might be the sensor itself or the wiring. How many miles on it?

243,xxx Kms

I just don't understand how it can be running and driving great for a minute then sputter the next minute. Maybe it's a wiring issue that disconnects and reconnects while driving?

basically the oxygen sensor measures the exhaust-gas concentration of oxygen for the engine in order to calculate and adjust the air fuel ratio. So if the sensor is faulty or the wiring have breaks you will have faulty reading which will cause the car runs like a ****. You can download the service manual and go to the fuel system section. There you will find how to test the sensor and wiring but you need a multimeter. If you can’t find the service manual I will check it for you.
