just wondering what type of results everybody gets from added rear bumper vents? Also at what speeds do these vents actually become a helping factor? I see most true race cars using vents, but I have no clue what point they are needed. I’m guessing if your car is trapping over 120mph these vents become helpful? I would like to know if anybody had a before and after speed difference results? I just have not been able to find much information on this.
thanks
thanks
If you are running 165 mph in the half mile you can expect to pick up 2 mph in the half mile from dropping the rear bumper on an hatch. That’s what I’ve seen at wanna go fast, but he dropped the bumper bar as well. So maybe .75-1 mph in the quarter. Dropping the weight may have been as much to blame for it though.

Years ago a friend of mine and I finally lined up. We made almost identical power and had the same chassis, once he cut out for bumper holes he picked up 2MPH in the 1/4 and would inch me out on the big end every single time! We would literally be door to door until 4th gear and he would start pulling ahead slowly and prior to the holes it was dead even running identical MPH and times. It certainly made me a believer because this wasn't even on high HP cars, I'm talking cars trapping low 100's he picked up 2MPH. I'm sure on cars trapping over 120MPH the difference is more than 2MPH based on what I had personally experienced.

thats good info, only a few mph don’t sound like a lot, but in racing inches are everything
thanks
just so some people can learn some things; a rear splitter with flat bottom would have an equal effect. It's all about aerodynamics. If you look under your car, the rear bumper actually works like a small parachute at higher speeds. Cut holes in the "parachute", or add a flat plate so the air totally bypasses the "parachute", and you've drastically reduced the wind drag. Obviously adding a plate adds weight and cutting holes reduces weight. So the choice is pretty obvious.
Ever stick your hand out the window at 120mph and cup the air? It's a considerable amount of drag. Now imagine the surface are of your hand compared to an entire rear bumper. Well, half the bumper...

All of the large manufacturers build in plastic or carbon fiber belly pans in any performance car that’s built today. I would think that would be the way to go over trying to equalize pressures. But same car pulling the bumper off to gain 2mph in the 1/2 mile says a lot. You can look up wanna go fast OCALA on YouTube for last year if you want to see for yourself.

look up the cars that run at World Cup Finals and check out their rear setups. That will let u know whats good. I saw some pretty crazy rear diffuser designs this year.
That turned out super nice dumpedej6! Normally I'm not a big fan of diffusers especially since most the cars in the northwest I see them on are appearance built cars and don't generally have anything related to actual preformance besides the cosmetic stuff. That does look clean and definitely took your time to make a quality piece out of it
