Old new battery for e.g. Civic: will it hold a charge?
A friend said he has an old new 51R battery, was bought new and never put in a car. That was 4 years ago.
question: will this be able to hold a charge? I know Batteries usually last 7-8 years but this one has not been used typically.
What's the best way to try to charge it back up? Or so s it...junk.
thank you

Please, don't make new threads about the same problem.
If it has never been recharged in the 4 years, it is unlikely to still be good. At the least you would want to charge for 2-3 days before testing or otherwise trying to use it.

Batteries have a shelf life. Back in the day, I bought a "NEW" Optima battery while working at Advance Auto. It has been sitting on the shelf for over a year and half. It didn't last but a year in my car before I had to replace it.
The longer they sit unused the less chance they have of surviving. Sitting too long kills pretty much anything. You can try refilling the electrolyte and trickle charging it but im willing to bet even if it worked in the short term. As soon as winter hits it will fail you.
Not sure how you are still on this battery thing, as i showed you there are multiple options.
