Possible fuel pump problem
Was driving my car one morning from work. Started the car with no problem until I hit a stop light after driving it for a mile. The idle just dropped then the car wont start. The fuel pump would engage when I turn the key and the car would crank but won't turn over. I still have gas in the tank. Battery is working fine. I have a guage on my fuel filter and it's not moving? Could it need a new filter, new starter? What do you guys think? Placed a working distributor also but still won't start. Would gladly appreciate the help guys.
If you are sure you are hearing the fuel pump prime when you initially turn the key on, then you likely have a split hose between the fuel pump and the pump hanger that feeds the front of the car. I have also seen cases when someone bottomed out a car really bad and flattened the hard fuel line that runs under the body... cutting off the fuel flow to the engine. Pull the fuel pump and check things out. It is unlikely that the filter totally clogged cutting off the fuel supply although changing it out couldn't hurt.
Just because the fuel pump turns on, it doesn't mean it's working correctly. I'm guessing it's the stock fuel pump? You can remove the pump from the tank and power it with 12VDC to see if it's actually working.
