96 Accord horn/brake light parasitic drain
what could cause this? I’m no electrician but I can work my way around wires if I know what I’m looking for. It’s a HUGE drain at that. I pull the fuse so I can start my car without a jump. But would like to know how to fix it. Anyone?.
Hello. You’re pulling the horn/brake light fuse to stop the drain? have you checked to see if your brake lights are working properly? If your brake light switch has a problem, then your brake lights will stay on constantly. The Honda design is one where the switch is actually an off switch....when your foot engages the brake pedal, it breaks contact with the brake light switch, when you lift off the pedal, it makes contact with the switch. There’s a rubber piece which makes contact, which can be worn down, or the switch itself could be faulty.

hey! Yes I did pull the fuse! And I looked and looked at the wiring. And I finally looked at the brake light switch. And low and behold. My problem. I put two pennies together and electrical taped them together, and then taped them to the break pedal, put the 20 fuse back in and checked to see if it fixed my drain. And it did!
On a side note, If your car is a 5speed, and you come across a no start, no crank condition with all other accessories receiving power, there’s a similar switch on the clutch pedal which would be the first place to check.
