I worked on my first project with a 1990 Honda Civic that my wife was given by her grandmother and then I took on when my wife got a new car through her work. The car has 128k original kms on the clock and was in decent condition but for a small accident on the passenger side door and fender (I reversed into a post, doh). It is a CX (Canadian only) and so very basic. Below is a list of things I've done added to date:
- Added rear speaker shelves and cargo shelf from an Si
- Replaced front CV axles and outer tie rods
- Replaced basic black rear garnish with red reflector from an Si
- Added rear mud guards
- Added front lip
- Added DX interior centre console and console piece where the shifter and hand brake is
- Replaced shifter **** with a nicer leather alternative
- Replaced wheels and tires
- New spark plugs and cables
- Added dashclock
- Added cigarette lighter socket
- Added a Thule roof rack
- Replaced damaged front fender with a Amazon bought equivalent, not exactly the same as the original but you'd need to be up very close
- Knocked out rust from by rear wheel wells and filled with bondo
- Heat gunned the black bumpers to bring out he black once more
My current list of to do's stands at:
- Replace trunk arms (had some strong arms but realised you have to take the whole ball joint piece of out and so its a bit more of a job than I realised
- Replace front and rear speakers
- Tint windows, not too sure if and how to do these though
- Add custom fit Lloyds floor mats
- Replace calipers and drums for new red alternatives with new rotors
- Install air conditioning (it really was a sweat box through the summer and worried I might get steamed up in the winter after soccer and snowboarding)
- Install a replacement passenger door to fix the damaged one I have
- Possibly drop a small amount although I know very little about this.
I'm looking for any other ideas, ideally small but all ears of anything that you think I can do or add to the old girl!
Cheers.
Resign yourself to pulling the hatch strut mount points. That trim piece around them comes out easily if you finesse it, and it's worth it to make sure you get the new stuff tightened up and looking good. If you don't have the strong arms anymore then I'd suggest Monroe (part # 901129). Found those on Amazon here in the states and like them much better than strong arms. But do replace regardless, your hatch (and your skull) will thank you.
Careful with the speakers if you still have the original head unit - it doesn't have a lot of power.
