Want to buy engine from hail damage Aution
Mu 1991 Accord engine is burning a lot oil...it has 265K miles and think the time has arrive to replace the engine.....compression checks are around 105 average across all four.....there are 1000s of cars that were damaged by hail storms in Colorado; so I want to buy an accord, newer year of course, but how do I determine which year and/or model will fit my Accord LS, 2.2 l with manual 5 speed X-mission.
the latest model year engine that will bolt up to what you have is 2002 (4cyl of course). more will be required to make it work (mostly wiring/computer control) but it will drop in mechanically.
newer, 2003+ (4cyl, specifically K24) can be swapped in but it's not straight-forward, will require a special mount kit, engine management and CV axles among other things (custom fabrication or specialized parts). even buying a hail damaged car to get the engine and transmission from (you'll need both for this option) could easily be double or triple the value of the car you'll be putting it in.
why not re-ring the engine you have? re-ring kits can be had from places like Rockauto for $100. you don't even have to remove the engine, just the cylinder head and oil pan.
