This is on a 2000 honda civic LX 4 door Sedan Auto Trans.

When you follow the oil pan from L to R the engine meets the tranny...see arrows for where oil is leaking.

Question for forum.
1. What is this part or seal or 2 components called?
2 Is it likely leaking from here or above and dripping down? ( I cannot see)
3. If i discovered the oil filter just a tad loose with hand tightening, could the oil be leaking from there and flowing down to this point?

See arrows for where I believe it is leaking??? What part is on the L of bolt and is that the transmission on R? What is this seal called?

 

this is where oil gathers when the filter comes off (or isn't on all the way...)

the part with the arrow is just a brace (block/trans "stiffener")

probably also have an oil pan gasket leak (worthwhile to replace), a rear main seal leak (not usually worth the effort unless you really like taking your car apart on the weekends...), and likely more from higher up dripping down (distributor o-ring which is cheap and easy and failure-prone and the valve cover gasket which is easy to replace).

 

 

clean up oil with brake cleaner, refill oil, check for leaks again.

 

+1. Oil found on the bottom of the engine has usually run down from somewhere else.

If there were a leak of the shaft seals of either the engine or the transmission, the oil (or transmission fluid) will usually come out of the square hole you see in the bottom of the case.

 

Thanks MK, I know exactly where you are talking about with the square box. ...nothing there. I think it was a dumb case of me not tightening the oil filter enough and it ran down. Im going to degrease all that S#$$# and see if it comes back, as of now the leak has subsided. Thanks again
