OPDS TSB06-009
hey everyone. I'm new here and I just got a 2002 Honda Accord EX with Leather seats. last week my SRS light illuminated, on the dash, much to my chagrin. I took it to the Honda Dealer near mean and $150 of diagnostic fees later I found out that my OPDS unit and sensor need to be replaced. I also have a bad I-AC which i found out is an Idle Air control system, probably a stuck valve. they said they can fix it all for the low low price of TWENTY ONE HUNDRED BUCKS! I don't have that kind of money!! This car was supposed to be the replacement for a car that was constantly in the shop. It seems like I've jumped from the frying pan into the fire. This is after having to change the oil, put new tires, a brand new timing belt, fix a fowled spark plug/coil pack issue. I hope that this car is not the same laundry list of problems that my previous car, of a different make, was.
So I was poking around on the interwebs and i found a service bulletin (TSB- 06-009), which I found out is what Honda sends out to their mechanics to tell them how to fix certain issues. I was originally hoping to find out where the OPDS unit is in my car, which this document tells me that, but more interestingly and more importantly this document said there was a class action lawsuit and they increased the Warantee to 157500 Miles which my car is still less than that, but the problem is they set a time limit of 10 years and 10 years has already passed. I did find this:
Out of warranty: Any repairs to the SRS system for problems other than the 15-1, 15-2, and 15-3 DTCs that are done after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
Hopefully I fall into this category. If anyone can help me to get this done for free that would be great. I think Honda should honor its agreement even though it's been more than 10 years because I'm still under the mileage requirement. I'm going to take this to my dealership and see what they say. hopefully they will cover the cost of repairs under this bulletin as a goodwill gesture.
I will post later when I know more.
