Default Idle Surge

Hey guys, looking for some help. I have a 97 Civic with a D16Y8 motor. In Park after start up the engine idles at about 1200 rpm for a few minutes then it will start surging up to about 1800-2000rpm. Turn the ac on and the surge goes away. Won’t surge in reverse or drive. Watch the video, let me know what you think. Thank you!!

Already got all of the air out of the cooling system, played with the adjusting screw. I’ve searched for hours and can’t find the cause.

Dirty / clogged IACV is my guess.

Why did this start? Why did you have to bleed? What did you adjust, what screw?

Tony, we purchased the car not running. It was missing a bunch of stuff on the top of the motor. After 4 or 5 trips to pick and pull it’s running. I’ve been searching D16y8 idle surge and one guy said air pockets in the cooling system can cause a surge. There is an idle adjustment screw that just raises or lowers idle rpm.

Forgive my ignorance but where is the idle air control valve?

Its under the throttle body. I found it easiest to disconnect the air box at the TB, then take the whole TB off, then take the IACV off, install is reverse. Also, you will have to purge air from the coolant as there are lines going to the IACV.

Edit; I just cleaned mine out, either not very good, or it was inevitable, but its giving me issues again, I bought a new oem IACV off ebay for under 100.
