00 EX sputtering at start up / extended crank and losing coolant. Head Gasket?
hey all, I have a 2000 ex coupe stock. Purchased this car a couple months back. It appears the cylinder head has been replaced. I believe the previous owner didn't repair issues properly on this car as the dipstick was held in with a zip tie and drywall screw. And the intake manifold on there is for a manual, the car is an auto. The iacv is routed all weirdly. Not sure if this is the cause of the coolant loss. It's weirdly setup, the car has 2 iacvs on it and somehow connected by hoses, no idea what the hell they were thinking.
When ever i start the car after a drive long enough for the temp to get to operating and shut it off, it's hard to start. I have to hold the key in the start position sometimes for like 5-10 secs to get it started. Then it runs rough and evens out after a min. I'll get misfire CEL's occasionally and the light will blink indicating a misfire. Did have a p1399 but cured that with a valve adjustment.
oh and another thing that was weird is I saw mist coming out of the air vents when I had the AC on, like it was refrigerant or something. This car is the weirdest thing I've delt with.

There are a ton of things that seem to be wrong with the car, and me throwing one possible answer out is a shot in the dark without looking at the car really. You seem to have a good idea of some things that need to be fixed with the car.
Generally, I always replace the basic things with these cars when I get them. And one of those things are the fuel filter. Generally a gunked up fuel filter will give you a long crank, but obviously there are a bunch of things going wrong.
I think its a good time to replace that, as well as a general tune up on the vehicle. There is also a chance that the fuel pump could be on its way out.
Check your fuel, check your spark and you'll have an idea of what's going on.
