Icon6 99 EX Breaking up/Spitting

I got a 99 Ex Coupe, at around 2-3500 rpms in 3-4-5 gear it will spit or break up randomly. I really think its when i give it a certain amount of gas but it does it so randomly i cant really pinpoint it. I do know that when it does it if i give it more gas it makes it worse, if i let off and get back on it usually it goes away, I traded my little brother my em2 for this car because my em is in way better shape and he aint mechanically inclined at all. He did have a full tune up done to it so im thinking it aint spark. Im thinkin its fuel related just wanted to get your guys 2 cents before i went crazy and took everything apart and cleaned it. think im gonna start with a fuel filter and check what plugs whoever did it put in. but besides them 2 things what are my main culprits gonna be?

It's been 5 hours, dude. We all reply for free out of sheer boredom.

Stock engine? No mods? What is the maintenance history on the car? Replaced parts and their brands? Hondas don't really like anything but NGK or oem for their ignition parts. Any check engine codes? Messing up with a certain throttle position screams bad throttle position sensor, but I've had a bad cap/rotor mimic a bad TPS (randomly) and cause other crazy issues.

Any other LITTLE thing the car does awkwardly? Most of the time people neglect to mention something that is crucial to the diagnosis.

i said that cause like 50 people viewed it but nobody posted when it gave me a notification someone did. Just made me ancy when it gave me the notification and it was still blank. And nope it’s completly stock and it actually seems to be getting worse. I already have a TPS and fuel filter on order since when I checked the plugs were ngk and I was hoping they were gonna be something else. It’s had the head gasket done like 20k ago. But besides tune up and hesdgasket I don’t think he has done anything else. And the only other problem the car has is it loses mad power when you turn the a/c on, I’m thinking that’s the compressor going up so I haven’t been using it until I can get one. But that’s it.

I would be looking at the coil or igniter.

So i pulled the cap yesterday to look at it and the rotor. Whoever did the tune up put a different screw to hold the rotor in place and it was wiggling like crazy. I’m hoping this was my problem but another question. What’s the best thing to use to clean the inside of the distributor. I’m getting a new rotor but I guess from the wiggling I got plastic dust everywhere inside. Will find out today in my ride to work and home if it’s fixed but any input on what to clean the inside the distributor with would be appreciated.

I just figured if it was gonna be something like that it would have been having problems all the time. Not just intermittent. But I deff learned my lesson if this fixes it. Hell even if it doesn’t gonna look over everything when I get a car from someone even when it’s family lol.

So driving to work this morning she started doing it again. I’m gonna check the rotor when I get off but I doubt it came loose again. I do have a new one and cap sitting at home I will put on today but any ideas appreciated. I’m thinking dirt in fuel lines or fuel filter or dirty gas tank but I dunno.

I've seen forum administrators state in the past that most post views are from bots that auto archive things. Oh well.

The rotor screw needs threadlocker applied to it when installed.

Are you getting any mixed oil/coolant? Radiator bubbling? Does the oil look like chocolate milk, and coolant look greasy? I ask because I've had so many issues with Hondas not responding well to a HG replacement. The head should have been resurfaced, and ideally the block checked.

I've had several of my family's Hondas eat up a coil and ignitor (ICM) in the last few years. x2 on what JRCivic said: I would resistance check these while you have the distributor apart. While you're at it, check the resistance of the plug wires.
