Hi All,
I only have 1 key for my 2001 accord ev. I have 2 alarm fobs. I wanted to get a copy made, they told me the key has a transponder built into it ( I was not aware ). They quoted me $45 bucks to make a copy of my key.
Just wondering if there is any better route to get a copy of my key for my car? $45 is pretty !@#$% expensive. I scored a set of replacement key fobs off ebay and they work great. Is there any budget route for key replacement?
Thanks all!

Price doesn't sound that bad to me.
I needed a key for my Accord. Dealer wanted about $125.
Locksmith came by and made me one for $75.
I was happy to pay $75, I would have been tickled to pay $45.

Pretty sure it has an immobilizer since it was pretty darn immobile when I swapped out it's ECU that went bad. Wouldn't start and the brakes locked up... had to get the new ECU programmed to work at the dealership.
Peepaw, that's not the answer i wanna hear... I want the "shizz bro, just hit up cheapchipkey.com just enter your vin, pay 10$ and bam!" kinda answer :-P

I needed an extra key though so I didn't have a lot of choices.
Cheap keys ended with the 5th Gen Accord.
$45 isn't a bad price either to program it as well. I paid $27 for a new key for my 5th Gen from the dealer because my old ones were so worn out they weren't working properly. I needed a fresh one cut from the VIN number of the car, because any copies I made of my current key would work just as bad. Sometimes you just gotta fork out the cash. And be glad its not a key. for a new car. That's $200+.

Their description is a little misleading in that regard.
