These are the codes before I changed the solenoids

My accord has been having transmission issues for a while. It over revs and slams into gear between first and second. The car has been very well maintained since my mother bought it. 197km. I just had a guy put new solenoids in it and thought I was good to go. Then my dad got behind the wheel and the car “ blew up”. It was not changing from first to second, at one point it wouldn’t downshift, it was all over the map. I am now getting a shift control malfunction code. I don’t have a lot of money and have already put in $600 for the solenoids. The guy who put them in said he checked all of the sensors and wiring that he could and can’t see a problem. I am just about ready to give up on it, because I don’t know any better and he wants to give me $300 for the car. My spidey-senses are telling me that I shouldn’t trust him.... if it’s no good why does he want to buy it...? Can anyone tell me if the car really is a lost cause or maybe how much it might cost to fix the shifter... I’m sure I haven’t given enough information, but I’d be more than happy to tell you what I can if it gets me an honest opinion...thanks in advance!

yes, it's time to take that car to another mechanic for a second opinion

go on yelp and find a mechanic with good reviews and mention that you found him on yelp and tell him you supposedly bought new solenoids for it too

it's entirely possible the tranny needs a rebuild

you might wanna pull the shaft speed sensors and clean them off real good with some brake cleaner, they could be caked up and preventing a speed reading

Thank you very much for the help. I will definitely do that. I just told him last night that I got an offer from Craigslist for $750 for the car for parts and he blew up my phone offering me the same amount. I’m just concerned that the rest is an easy fix but he isn’t telling me. I hate being female and not knowing anything about cars. If I’m going to get screwed at least buy me flowers😣! Again, thank you for your support. Have a great day

Agree, a second opinion is a great idea. He might be lying, but he may be thinking worst case scenario replace the transmission. I know I am always on the look out for older cars with mechanical issues that are in good condition otherwise. I don't mind fixing mechanical stuff, but stay away from body work.

It doesn't mean he's lying to you. He probably knows how to re-build a transmission. He could buy a rebuild kit for $150-200, and spend 10 hours re-building. He only has a cost of $200, but if he was charging a customer for his labor it would cost you $2000. now he can flip the car for a good market price. I don't think it's an "easy fix", it just might not cost him a lot outside his labor.

Have the engine and transmission mounts inspected. Changing the bad ones might fix a few issues with shifting. I took mine to Firestone where they inspected it in front of me for 10 bucks.
