Default 91 Si Steering Rack noise

Hey guys first time poster here. The steering rack in my Si is making this really annoying clicking/rattling noise. Sounds like there’s a bunch of tiny marbles rolling around in it. It happens when I’m getting up to speed, above 30mph and then sometimes at freeway speeds for a while. Usually when cold. Sometimes it stops after I’ve driven for a while. I’m super confused. I’ve never heard a car make this noise before. Any help would be appreciated. It honestly might not even be my steering rack, I’m just taking my best guess here. I don’t know what else down there could even be making noise.

difficult, jack it up and take the wheels off. Pull and push and everything to see if anything is broken or loose.

Should I start with the steering rack itself? The sound itself is coming from inside the cabin for sure. Sounds like it’s right behind the steering wheel or something.

if the noises are coming from the driver side, the u joints at the bottom of the rack need to be looked at, likely tightened. and sometimes the plastic guard near the bottom gets out of place and rubs the u joints.

but it is almost certain that if the steering rack has NOT been maintained, the rack END bushing (there is only 1, and it is white and plastic and on the passenger side) needs rebuilding and the pinion adjusted. this is all mostly labor work and very little in cost. unless your tie rods, inner and outer also need maintenance.

I learned that noises hardly ever come from the area they produce sound at.
I would just start looking and pulling.
The tie rods connect to the rack and I know those go bad easily but are also easy to replace so just look everywhere for play
