10th gen EX-T/SI or 8th Gen SI for power later
Hi guys, so I'm debating on getting a four door car but I'm stuck between an 8th gen civic si or a 10th gen si or ex-t. I assumed the older si would be able to beat an ex-t with ease, but I've been reading on tons of sites that that is not the case, which I still thing it's some sort of fluke lol but anyway i wanted to know which car is easiest to add the most power with really only bolt ons and a tune. I don't wanna spend a bunch, but I do want the car to be fun whenever i want a little bit of power. I used to have an 06 rsx-s with h/i/e/tune and I loved it! I know the older SI's don't have as much power, but it's only a slight difference, I just need a 4 door car. I would think that the newer si and ex-t would be able to add more power very easily because of the turbos, but i'm not that much of a car person so I'm unsure. Any input?

Even though the 2.4 liter has a touch more torque, I've heard the 2 liter has better gearing. Not sure it's that straight forward.

That's why I said, may help. Just giving relation with a tuned 1.5t to something more known.

OP, this question has a "Time Limit"... the answer may be quite different two or three years from now. Today, I would go with the 8G Civic Si and add the Kraftwerks Supercharger system. Total cost would still only be about HALF of what a new 10G Civic Si would be. The turbocharger in the 10G Si is very small and thus the gains are limited as to what it can make topped out. The advantage of the 10G Si over the 8G or 9G Si is TORQUE... the turbocharger makes peak torque very early and thus, is able to hustle the car up to law breaking speeds quite easily. Adding a quality I/H/E (along with a tune) to a 8G or 9G Si will get the race close, but a tuned 10G may still just edge out the win. The 8G or 9G Si with the KW kit will SMOKE the 10G Si... it wouldn't even be close.
Fast forward a couple of years until more aftermarket manufacturers have had time to properly develop a larger turbocharger, downpipe, and cat-back exhaust... and most importantly a fuel system that will provide the necessary fuel volumes required to make big power... and then we may have a totally different outcome.

Once you add forced induction to the larger displacement motors, the smaller displacement won't be able to get the same results even with upgrading the turbo.
No replacement for displacement is the old saying.

All else being equal... I agree with you that the difference in displacement gives the nod to the 8G/9G Si over the 10G Si. But we all know that "all else" is never really equal in the real world... you "run what you brung and hope you brung enough", and boost is essentially added displacement. Lots of SOHC turbo engines have made 500 to 700 wheel HP and there is no reason to think that this platform wouldn't be able to support this level of power. Now, it will be EXPENSIVE to create this much power from these engines... so we will see. Time will tell.

great question. So I have a FA5 with I/H/E and Flashpro. It's fast. I have ran a 16 accord Sport (non turbo), an 18 civic Hatch turbo, and an 18 Civic Hatch Turbo Manual. So the accord sport **** on me with no flashpro. It was embarrassing. With flashpro, the accord did lose, but put up a good fight. The hatch CVT lost, but put up an even better fight than the accord. The sport stick lost but put up a great fight, just like the cvt. The hatch manual, I ran with on the freeway in 5th gear roll to see what would happen, and he won. So the point is, these new hondas are fast. I am actually very surprised with the power of these new hondas, AND THEY HAVE FLASHPRO available! so 8th gens are old man. They are dope. I will probably never get rid of mine, but at this point, newer might be better??
