1991 Honda Civic DX HB
Has factory air and cassette tape player
Neither work
A/C lost freon fill in 24 hours
Cassette player is unresponsive
Neither was used in this daily driver over 10 years 7/10/18 EIGHTEEN YEARS, NOT TEN Yaxabit
Can they be revived, serviced, resuscitated?

Fixing the system depends on whether it's still with R12 or has been converted to R134a. If I owned the car, I would replace the condenser (with an R134a parallel flow unit), evaporator, expansion valve, receiver drier, flush the hardlines, replace all o-rings, add correct oil (4-5oz TOTAL), then drain and replace the oil in the compressor. Evacuate, leak check, and charge by weight. Leaking out over 24 hours is a HUGE leak. I suspect the rubber hoses are leaking if they've never been changed. You might get away without replacing every part in that list but if it's been open 10 years you have a not so nice mix of ancient oil and moisture in the system.
You can also take it to a dedicated A/C shop if you're unfamiliar with A/C work. You need quite a lot of equipment and knowledge to properly service an A/C unit. Just be aware if this unit hasn't been used in 10 years, or is still on R12, it's gonna be quite expensive to pay someone to fix. I can rebuild a whole unit for this car for around 400-600 if the compressor is bad since I have the gear to do it. The parts aren't even available locally anymore in my experience.
Cassette player--- Unless you're going for a 100% stock restoration, why? Just pick up a Bluetooth headunit on Amazon with a stereo harness and call it a day.

Thank You so much for your response SUMDEWD.
I am techtarded and then got really busy and couldn't find my way back in here until today!
Got it to an AC shop and they said the adaptation was done on this but they did not have time to look at it or diagnose it.
They want $110 to do systemic check, no guarantees, no parts, just the inspection. Is this reasonable?
The adaptation must have been done before 2000 because we bought it then and my daughter never used it OR the stereo.
I do not remember if they worked when we got car or not. They certainly don't work now.
Cassette player radio looks brand new but doesn't work. THAT WILL WAIT.
But the AC must be dealt with QUICKLY...
As my husband and his teen son need to drive the car from here in HELL HOT, Arizona to Dallas, Texas in about a week....
Without AC it will not be bearable.
I will show hubby your post.
Again, I THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE.... Yaxabit

$110 with no guarantee does not sound good to me. Shops around here (Orlando, FL) do about $50-$70 bucks with a guarantee on finding the leak, and quote you on the parts or o-ring that need to be changed. The A/C replacement cost if you factor labor may quickly exceed the dollar value of the car. You have some kind of leak-- that is a guarantee. Being unused for 10 years is asking for trouble if you don't replace ALL system oil, flush lines, and possibly replace the evaporator, condenser, and receiver drier (unflushable parts). You can't really cheap out on A/C work at all. And asking a retrofitted R12 system to cool in AZ/TX is a tall order. I've contemplated getting rid of my 90 Civic quite often because FL is too goddamn hot.
If it was properly retrofitted to R134a then you at least have the fittings. It really depends on if a pro shop did the work, but the oil would be garbage regardless from it being open. Some ordinary Joe may have also just swapped the fittings and called it a day

Freeze-12 is available as an R12 substitute and works fine in the OE system.
you need to find that leak.
cassette player? why would you bother keeping that? other than a dummy and you use a modern amplifier tucked behind.
