Brand new rack and pinion
Anyone heard of piston ring? (an automotive parts supplier in Canada)
I purchased a refurbished steering rack from them that is leaking after I just installed about a couple weeks later.
I’m wondering if there’s any experiences where you have had the company who supplies the part only partially cover the cost of the alignment? I’ve used a lot of my time to do this myself and can’t forget to mention all the brand new power steering fluid that has leaked out.
In a case like this what can I expect to happen after I take the old one out that barely has only a couple weeks or so on it and can I get my money back after all is done?
I took the boot off on the inner tie rod and sure enough loads of fluid has come pouring out.
Called piston ring about the fact and only partial of my losses are going to be covered, is this normal?

If you buy the part yourself you only have a warranty on the part itself.
If you have a mechanic "furnish and install" a part, their shop will warranty the whole job. This is one of the reasons the latter option costs more.

Hey thanks mk378, I hear what your saying.
I had the experience to do it myself and even though it’s not fair I understand and will just have see how this goes which I can now see why they only cover some of the cost.
