93 dx speedo working intermittent, no codes.
i've done search and tried what people said. plugs good an tite on the back of speedo unit, vss plugged in good. is it possible the vss is bad even though its not throwing any codes? could the computer cause this? sometimes it works, and sometimes it jumps around, and sometimes it don't move at all. bone stock dx automatic. thanks in advance for any suggestions.
i had a this problem before. you'll never believe what the problem was. do your self a favor and check all the engine grounds. the one that was my problem was the one on the thermostat housing. good luck.

i'll have to check those out. I know it isn't a speed sensor, just tried a known working one in it and it did the same. thanks.
I have the same problem with my 92 DX Hatch -sometimes the speedo works, sometimes it dosn't, and sometimes it jumps all over the place. I tried everything you have, Pulled out the cluster and made sure all connections were good, checked the connections at the vss, even replaced the vss but still didn't work. One day though I had just put gas in the car and was pulling out, the speedo wasn't working but when I pushed the trip-odometer reset the needle sprang up, I let the button go and the speedo stopped working, pushed the reset back in and the speedo started working etc... Sometimes I can get the speedo working by pushing the reset button in and out, sometimes I can't. So I'm pretty sure the problem is inside the cluster. When I have the time and money I'm going to swap in a new cluster to see if it works.

i will have to check to solder todya. I haven't put the trim panel back in yet, since its such a pain. if its soldering it will be fixed today. otherwise, i'll still be searching. I have an extra computer I thought about putting in to see if that might somehow have something to do wiht it but I doubt it would. you never know though.

All civics seem to have this problem. We tried soldering it but it still works when it ants to. I might break down and buy a brand new unit from Honda. Odometer doesn't move when speddo doesn't work so I'm having to use the trip meter on my Apex'i RSM to keep track of the miles (Engine break in).
any progress? Mine seems to do it when the car is cold, but once its running for a while it works ok untill i WOT it in higher RPMS dunno confusing.,

Eliminate some of the possible variables, find someone willing to lend you another cluster for just a few moments and test that, if it works fine, it's not the cluster. Check the computer as you were, switch it out like you stated, just do everything independently so you can figure out exactly what the problem is cause if you fix it and can't figure out what the problem is, you're going to hate yourself if it reoccurs and you don't know exactly what fixed it. You can also relay the information to those in need of it.
Good luck, I would test out all the wiring, sounds more like a issue with the electronics, for the guy having the reset button issue, that looks to be the root cause, I would start from there and work forward.

ok, i put in another gauge cluster and it worked perfect. now I'm gonna change the circuit board on the back of my original speedo and try to eliminate it further. haven't had time to mess wiht it since I just got the turbo working on the wagon.
original speedo works fine with just changing the circuit board on the back of the speedo head itself. just passing it along in case someone else has troubles.
Thanks man, good to know!
I have the exact same problem you had.
Did you find anything wrong with the circuit board that wasn't working? i'd like to find a way to fix mine instead of buying a whole new cluster. Did you try resoldering all the traces?
