Loud pop, shift position on brake release
Hello all,
96 civic ex 4dr atm was sitting for a several days with parking brake on. No problem, when I released parking brake but when I took foot off regular brake peddle, to begin driving, I heard a loud pop, sounding like it came from rear passenger side and the car felt like it shifted position and/or slipped, forward, a bit, like it fell off a small rock.
Any ideas?

Brake shoes stuck to the drum and when you started to move the car they popped back into unengaged position.
Does make a significant pop but should not usually cause any harm.
Used to happen on our hatchback fairly frequently until I finally did the rear brakes with new drums and new shoes.
And just as a note, your EX even if it has rear disk still has a drum in the disc for the parking brake.

Yeah, pop was loud enough to think something was hit with a hammer so was wondering about causing any harm and how long I can go like this.
