I took this apart originally to replace the transmission shift cable because my car would not go into park. I replaced that part, but now when I try to put this back together I can't get the key out of the ignition. When I push the shift **** down so I can put in the set screw it pushes down that little lever in the second picture. When that little lever is down it will not let me take my key out. By not having the set screw in the shift **** I have no problem taking the key out of the ignition. Any ideas?
I replaced the shift cable because I could not get the car to shift into park while the linkage was connected under the gear box. So in order for me to put the car into park I would have to undo that linkage pin everytime and then I could put the car into park. Not that I know of? Is that the key insert on the gear box?
Did you follow the factory service manual doing the cable replacement?
I recall on the 92-95 there is very specific instructions on how to do the job and get everything in careful alignment. Quite likely to avoid this issue you are experiencing.
I suspect it's the same concern on the 96-00 cars too.
