Hi all, like the title says, I have a 2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L Sport Van that has thrown the code P0404. The code is for the EGR valve, supposedly. The engine light does not stay on, it comes on and goes off. Seems to come on after we have been driving, during trips and will stay on. Next day, it's gone and doesn't come on until the next long trip. I cannot tell that the Sport Van is running poorly. The gas mileage indicator range will sometimes drop rapidly as well as the gauge but I believe that is an unrelated problem. I have searched for the code and read the symptoms and possible causes and how to take it all apart and clean out the EGR intake and all that but I'm still looking to see if anybody has any experience with this and may be able to shed some light on the subject before I pull the manifold off.

There was a Honda service bulletin regarding that code. It may be due to the EGR valve. A software update was available.

Is this something the dealer will do at their cost?
Interesting, just had it in last week at the dealer for a recall and brake work.

They will only covered it under warranty.

 

Ok, so the answer would be no then. We will call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. I really appreciate your help and the fast response.

Just called the dealer. They will not cover the cost. The part will cost me $135 and the dealer wants $55 to do the software update.
