Bizarre High Idle Issue
B18a1 idling stupid high after swap into my ef hatch, like 3k rpm. Found that I had the tps wires switched and also had a vacuum leak at the intake mani gasket. The idle did not change at all after fixing both these things so I pulled off the fitv and screwed it all the way down. The idle still did not change so i unplugged the iacv which finally brought it down to about 1100 rpm and made it sound terrible, all sorts of weird sputtering and surging. I'm a bit lost, I have used a couple cans of carb cleaner looking for a vacuum leak and cannot find another one, even underneath the car along the bottom portion of the intake mani gasket. I went to the junkyard and tried three different iacv's and each one had the car idling at about 3k. I even switched the wires going into the iacv and there was still no difference in the idle. I have zero clue what's going on. The tps is a little out of calibration, around .33 volts at zero throttle, but I'm pretty sure it would not cause such a high idle. The engine is in horrible shape and needs a rings and a head gasket pretty bad, so I think I am just going to eat the bullet and buy another engine I know is in good shape. What inputs does the ecu look at to control the iacv? Could the bad head gasket somehow be related to this? Bad temperature sensor? This problem is beyond me. if anyone has insight, please let me know.
