96 sohc vtec jdm install
I am trying to find out what to be aware of when dropping in a jdm engine in my (my son's) 96 accord. It has the sohc vtec motor and I only want to go back with the same type because I'm not looking to turn this into a project or gain any power. Just looking to keep it going. I believe it's worth it due to how well it still looks with its new paint done just last year it is really clean.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.
I read somewhere that the oil pump needed to be switched due to a sensor that isn't present on the jdm one. And that this was only so in the 96 and 97 accord. Is that incorrect?

How complete of an engine are you going to purchase?
As complete as possible I assume. I won't need the tranny. I've come to find out, if I'm correct, that the 96 and 97 4 cylinder accords were obd2. The jdm motors I've seen for sale say 94-97. So I would assume i need to contact the seller first and assure they sell me an obd2 motor?
Never purchased a jdm before so 🤞

that's true, normally the oil pump of the usdm's have the crank sensor assembly while the jdm engines don't so yes you will need to swap over the oil pump assembly and the crank sensor from your usdm engine

ok, thanks. How about the f23 jdm motor? I saw an engine for sale on eBay from jdm direct that is an f23 and in their description it reads it is for a replacement of the f22 in the 96-97 accord. Looking at the pictures I can clearly see the dizy with no external coil so I would think that means it is obd2 like I would need.
Does this sound right or wrong to you experts? Thanks
