Hi, so I bought this Honda Accord from the first / only owner at 80K miles 3-4 years ago. Since then, it now has 100K miles. History of the services on this car, Oct 2016 I heard a clicking noise under the hood on cold start up, had the VTC actuator replaced / fixed which also had a recall / service bulletin but according to the dealership I was "out of warranty".. $800 to get that fixed from the dealer.. fast forward to present day.. engine started making a clicking noise, took it to Honda to do a check with their computer ($150).. said they now needed to do an engine tear down to see the real problem which would be $300 which I refused to.. Drove the car for 3-4 more days after that trip, and the car died. Felt like the car jerked, oil light came on, engine light came on, car then died. Called the dealership about what I thought it may be, the TSB on excessive oil consumption and they said that since the car was bought in 2008 (model year 2007) it's out of warranty. Called the Honda company as well and they said the same thing..

I spoke to the tow truck guy and he said something about his family member having some issue like this and that there is a recall with the engine.. He said call the dealership and then call consumer affairs and they should fix it. That's what I was banking on but clearly that didn't work. How should I go about this?

**Note before anyone asks: The car was maintained properly, oil changes done every 5K miles from when the car was owned.

 

There was no recall, it was an extended warranty (8 yearsfrom the original date of purchase or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first. ) for excessive oil consumption due to the piston rings.
