Default 2007 Accord-Cabin fan Always ON High; A/C works from fan dial!?

I have had this 2007 Accord for over 4 year with no issues. Suddenly the A/C stopped being cool and we got it fixed last week (at Brakes Plus). It worked fine for 2-3 days. Then suddenly it went bizarre. The interior fan speed control dial does not change the speed. It is always On at High. then the A/C on/of button does not do anything. The BrakesPlus guys said the 'circuit board' or the 'AC control head' is gone. Replacement part from dealer at $1300+.
I fiiddled with the dial some. At some point, the AC LED light comes on, and a little further at a particular position, the AC really turns ON. The fan is still full blast though.
I left it in that position for now.
What can this be? Some kind of a short? something the Brakesplus guys could have done?

The blower fan issue you're describing is usually due to a faulty blower power transistor. You can easily replace it yourself. It is held in with two Philips screws. The part cost is not what they are quoting you; OEM or aftermarket. Go somewhere else for service.

Thanks a lot, Tech-8. Seems simple enough. I will certainly try that. Thanks again,
