started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
Got a 96 civic ek coupe, originally had a d16y7 and a 5speed. Picked up a b18b1 swap out of a 96 integra this weekend. i got complete engine, trans, shift linkage, axles etc.
After using the search function and google for most of the day, i have come up with some stuff i needed to make this swap happen.
I ordered a 99 si post mount for the engine on driver side
i ordered a 99 si t-bracket.
New clutch, timing belt set, and a engine gasket kit.
I want to keep my a/c and power steering. i found some really good threads, however were kind of confusing.
First off, to keep my a/c i will need a a/c mount from a crv.. what year crv bracket will i need?
Power steering, from what i gather, i cannot use the integra power steering pump as the fitting is different at the pump. .. am i able to use the integra line to the rack?, or do i need a 99 civic si pump or a crv pump?
Attached is a couple pics of the engine i picked up.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
This is the one i just bought if you want the a/c bracket new. if you want used the crv you need to look for is the one with the b20, i think 97 to 01? it used a d series ac comp on a b series motor. https://www.icbmotorsport.com/jdmusdelsolp.html
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
You will need the A/C bracket from a '97-01 CRV... for P/S, simply get the aluminum P/S bracket from the same CRV and you can bolt your Civic P/S pump directly to it.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
You can use a '98 - '01 Integra PS pump which will bolt up to that bracket and connect to you PS lines or use a '97 - '01 CR-V bracket. AC bracket needs to come from a '97 - '01 CR-V
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
A/C
- 97-01 CRV A/C bracket with tensioner and adjuster bolt
- Your D-series pump
- 97-01 CRV A/C belt
- With this it all bolts up like stock. No need to even remove your pump during the swap, just bungee it to the core support and bolt it back on once the B18 is in.
PS - Easiest is finding a 56110-P2T-G02 pump from 99-2000 Si - 56997-P30-010 99-2000 Si Upper bracket
- 56994-P30-000 99-2000 Si Lower bracket
These are the parts I used on my 97 LX B16A2 swap and it all fit and works like factory.

Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
The upper VTEC P/S bracket does NOT work on a non-VTEC engine or cylinder head... so the 56997-P30-010 from a '99-00 Si is incorrect information. If you want to swap to a "B" series P/S pump, you can use the brackets that are already on the engine you have pictured above... you will not need to replace them UNLESS the tab for the wing-nut adjustment bolt needed to pull the pump up incorrectly places the hole over the threaded hole in the pump. As for which P/S pump will work... it needs to have the same fitting style as your existing Civic P/S high pressure line. The Integra pump you have pictured has a high pressure line inlet that is typically referred as the "large diameter, inline style" and I believe, if my memory suits, that the fitting on your Civic P/S line is the "small diameter, offset style"... and they are not compatible.
The easiest way to deal with the P/S IS as I stated above: Use your existing P/S pump and high pressure hose already in your Civic and find a CRV P/S bracket at your local pull-a-part... or order one from any Honda Parts Department.

Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
thanks for all the good info. i ordered a 98 crv ac bracket and power steering bracket to make it simple.
i picked up a 97 civic ex yesterday for 250$ for parts. - pulled the power steering line off the rack, and the pump, and compared the fitting at the pump to the integra high pressure line, and it was identical except for the bends in the line at the rack side... so between those two lines, and the bracket i think i should be able to make it work.
I also have a p75 ecu from the integra, is this the correct ecu i need to use for my swap?
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
P75 OBD2A should work for your application. Since you have the engine and tranny apart, replace the clutch and resurface the flywheel. Don't forget the rear main seal. Better do it now than 2 months later when **** starts to leak.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
Make sure you get a whole clutch kit that has throw out bearing and pilot bearing as well as the pressure plate and disc.
You might want to order a set of ARP flywheel bolts, too. I had a major problem when my socket rounded the head on one of the bolts during my B18C1 swap last January. Had to get the grinder and chisels out. It was not pretty.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
Re-using the Honda flywheel bolts is fine, if you use threadlocker with them. As for rounding off the 12pt head, not sure how that's even possible unless you/someone else was using an air gun to bolt them down.....which is a no-no.

An absolute no-no! Rounded the very last one when I was removing the flywheel to replace the rear main seal. I didn’t have the socket perfectly flush against the bolt head. Ruined that whole weekend. I find that there’s not a lot of meat to grab on those bolt heads, but the ARP fasteners had more for the socket to grab.
I was recommending the bolts as a preventative measure so that OP wouldn’t have my same woes. Don’t get me wrong — the OEM bolts are completely adequate at holding that flywheel down.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
thanks for the tips on the ecu, and clutch.
I did order a act clutch kit off ebay , and a "ebay" flywheel
Also picked up an engine gasket kit from rockauto, and a arp head stud kit aswell.
Picked up a set of supertec valve springs and retainers from a buddy of mine that he didnt end up using in his build along with new valve seals.
the last few days after work have been spent cleaning, and degreasing the transmission. just threw a coat of paint on it this evening .
stripped the paint off the valve cover aswell, have plans on painting it , but not sure what colour i am going to do, or if i am going to try and polish the aluminum.
only one pic is the painted trans i finished up tonight.
Short of buying new bolts, has anyone tried painting bell housing bolts, and the various bracket bolts so they dont look like crap?
also @egsleepercivic. i am in Bc, Canada. i think i located the p/s bracket, but havent been able to source the a/c bracket. the local pick and pull has 3 crv's, all of which are missing the engines and brackets. Ebay seems pretty expensive for a small hunk of metal.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
probably 6 hours , 18 beers, and 3 evenings were spent cleaning that sob. i mean really, i guess it doesnt have to be painted, but **** it right, i figure it will be easier to spot oil leaks and such, and i think it will look good. Block is going to be the same "as cast" colour, and the head its pretty clean as it is.
Tried searching for people that polished there valve cover rather than painting it. cant find anything. has it been done?

Probably has. I can help you get stuff bolted together, but painting stuff really isn’t my area of expertise. Still a n00b at all that...
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
Ya I def need the ac bracket. Shoot me a price and shipping for the bracket. That would be a huge help.
going to start prepping And painting the block and random brackets and such this weekend. It's been a bit of a heat wave here so been hard to spend more than 4 or 5 hours out in the sun. See how far I get. Also have some basic stuff to do to my f150 to get it somewhat reliable so I still have some transportation while I tear the civic apart.
Re: started my b series swap this weekend. need a little help
Ls swap f150 would be pretty killer. I bought the f150 brandnew in 2000 when I was 20. So there is some sentimental attachmebt there. She needs some basic stuff. Been neglecting her latley. I have been watching a few YouTube channels, and guys are swappinging 5.3's into there 350z's . Those things would be rocket ships.
i work at a Ford dealer as a technician the last 5 years, and had the opportunity to buy a 1985 mustang lx 4cyl car with 60k KMS original on it, 1 owner. So I picked that up a couple years ago. Not sure what my plans are for that, but perhaps an ls swap will be in the future
