We are also having issues with one person saying a manual transmission multiplex for the backup lights will have a pin in it, where the one for automatic does not.
We need some kind of proof, maybe a diagram of a manual multiplex and one for automatic so we can convince the person we bought it from they sold us the wrong one.
Here is an image of the multiplex we purchased, and the red circle is where the Honda technician said is for the backup lights, and said it should have a pin in it, which it doesn't. At this point, we do not know who to believe, but a diagram for both would be helpful.
The Honda part number is the pertinent identifier. For a manual transmission, the under-dash fuse/relay box (with integrated MICU) is 38200-S9A-A01 (a discontinued part).
The red circled is to place the Memory Erase Signal (MES) Connector; it doesn't have a terminal pin in the fuse box. There should be no difference at the red circle area for an auto vs manual transmission.
The difference between an automatic and manual transmission back-up light terminal pin differs. For a manual transmission, it goes through Connector D, terminal no. 11, whereas for an automatic, it goes through Connector R, terminal no. 5
Based on the circuit diagrams and a photo of the one for an automatic, there may not be a difference in the number of terminal pins at Connector D or how it looks for auto vs manual.
Has anyone had any luck finding these? My daughter’s 2002 CR-V is a manual as well and it recently started all of the same symptoms that everyone else reports when this thing dies. AC doesn’t work, intermittent wipers don’t work, dome light doesn’t come on with the doors, headlight/key in/seatbelt reminders don’t work, power locks don’t work, etc. I’ve been calling junkyards for two days and haven’t found a single manual tranny CR-V anywhere within 50 miles of Milwaukee.
My 2002 manual had the same problem. I finally found a part in California (I am in SC). A nationwide search for a junk yard with 2002-2004 manual transmission turned up 4 hits. Only 2 of those still had the vehicle. The first one broke the part pulling it off the car. The 2nd one got it right. We installed it and, for now, it's working. You may or may not be able to find another, but search for the 5 speed manual transmission, not the fuse box. You may find another location that still has the car on the lot with the fuse box. One more thing. Be sure the part number ens in -01, not -11. the -11 is for the automatic. Good luck
