so i was working on my car the other day and found out i had a bad starter. i replaced the starter with a new one from oreilys and my car would start with the new one (i havent driven it i just replaced the starter only). a week later, now this new one is having the same symptoms. my relay is clicking like its suppose to but i currently dont have it mounted to the chassis of the vehicle, not like it matters. could it be another bad a starter or something else? all the connections are good, starter signal fuse isnt blown and the battery is full charged since its on a trickle charger. any ideas?

if the new starter is made in china it could be bad right out of the box.
if you have the factory original starter it just may need a rebuild kit.
check your make and model but something like this:

if not just get a new denso unit, problem solved (hopefully). cleaning up grounds is a good idea too.
dont just eyeball them lol.

just to give you some possiblilties to check when it fails to start. make sure you have power to the small wire on the solenoid from ignition switch-could be a faulty ignition switch- a relay can click but not work properly when under load. voltage drop test the positive cable at the starter and at the battery-drop should not be more than 300 mv and from the battery cable to batttery post-- also you can momentarily connect a wire from the battery positive terminal to solenoid on the starter (where the small wire goes) to check the new starter it should crank to see if its good- ,make sure the car is not in gear and in neutral if automatic cause it can lunge forward otherwise
