2006 Honda Odyssey. Key stuck in igntition and shifter will not budge from Park position. Vehicle will not even try to start despite key being able to turn all the way.

 

On the instrument panel, is the indicator showing it is in Park (P)?

 

No, van wont start or release key if battery is connected. Shifter wont budge without using shifter release tab. Once released with that tab i tried each gear to see if I could start it in another gear and it wont. I also notice that all electronics work except for the sliding doors. It seems the van isnt recognising the shift lever for some reason and wont detect that it is in Park. My first thought was that maybe it was a neutral switch sensor but am perplexed by it not starting in any other gear.

 

Possible bad brake light switch? Are any brake lights out?

 

A faulty transmission range switch may be the cause of what you are describing. I am not sure if you have a multi-meter and willing to do some testing. Let me know.
