2006 Pilot steering wheel controls for after market radio
I bought an android stereo (atoto a6) and wanted to know if anyone ever figured out which wires I need to tap for the steering wheel controls. Thanks in advance.
Re: 2006 Pilot steering wheel controls for after market radio
Are you unsure of which wires to hook up on your aftermarket unit or which wires for car's own steering wheel controls? Or are you unsure of the wiring for both the car's side and your aftermarket unit?
Only the Pilot EX and EX-L trim levels have the steering wheel controls on the steering wheel. LX do not have steering wheel controls for the audio unit. What trim level is your Pilot?
Re: 2006 Pilot steering wheel controls for after market radio
Honda Pilot EX and EX-L trim levels have the steering wheel audio control.
You can hook up the car's wire directly to the aftermarket head unit if the aftermarket unit has the capability to program/map the steering wheel controls for each button switches.
If your aftermarket head unit doesn't have programming/mapping capability, then you would use an aftermarket adapter such as the PacAudio SWI-X or Axxess ASWC, which would give you an interface to program/map the steering wheel audio control buttons.
The Honda Pilot EX and EX-L's Grn/Red wire from the factory harness wire is connected to the aftermarket head unit's SWC Key 1 wire. The Honda Pilot's SWC ground wire (Brn) is connected to the aftermarket's ground wire for SWC (this is not the same wire as SWC Key 2).
SWC Key 2 is probably left unconnected, since the Pilot only uses one control wire (i.e., the Grn/Red wire) and a ground (Brn wire). Some cars have two control wires and the source ground.
On the Honda Pilot each button on the steering wheel radio remote triggers a different voltage drop (resistance) for Volume Up, Volume Down, and Seek; it is controlled through the single wire to the audio unit.

This is excellent. I finally managed to get my steering wheel controls working. Connected the green and red wire to the key 1 of the double din Android stereo.
Thanks a lot as I have been struggling to find the connection for sometime now!!
